HOW CAN THE CHALLENGES OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION BE MET IN A CROSSBORDER CONTEXT?

08/30/2021 – 09/03/2021

In 2020, the TRENT Chair at Sciences Po Bordeaux co-organised with the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) a multidisciplinary summer school on energy transition. Given the success of this event (over 25 people registered and around 10 external speakers), the recommendation is for this summer school to be run in the Basque Country in 2021, at the Bayonne-Anglet campus (UPPA). The TRENT chair has proposed that the summer school be organised between the UPPA, Sciences Po Bordeaux and the partners of the RENOVABLES project. Specifically, INARBE-UPNA (Navarra) would host a roundtable to discuss “renewable energy public policies and their business and economic impact” and BC3 (Euskadi), with whom the project is already working, could arrange an exhibition on “climate change impacts over time”.

The TRENT Chair has recommended that the French Crossborder Operational mission (M.O.T) take part in the event to promote the event at national and even European level. The summer school will address the major systemic problems highlighted by the M.O.T. in its Energy Transition and Crossborder Cooperation section. Special mention should be made of the Euroregion’s specialisation strategy in renewable marine energy sector shown on page 6 of this document, which stresses the best practices of that partnership.

French and Spanish will be the official languages of the conference. Basque will also use be used, thus fostering the use of the official languages of the Euroregion and its multilingual diversity.
